General Information
Location
Boston is the capital and most populous city in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The largest city in New England, Boston is considered the unofficial economic and cultural center of the entire New England region. The city of Boston, which had an estimated population of 596,763 in 2006, lies at the center of America's eleventh-largest metropolitan area, known as Greater Boston, home to over 5.8 million people. It is also part of a wider region that includes the nearby cities of Worcester, Providence, and Manchester, with a population of 7.4 million.
Boston's reputation as the Athens of America derives in large part from the teaching and research activities of more than 100 colleges and universities located in the Greater Boston Area, with more than 250,000 students attending college in Boston and Cambridge alone. Several major national universities located within and around Boston have a major presence in the city. Harvard University, the nation's oldest institution of higher learning, is located across the Charles River in Cambridge. The business and medical schools are in Boston, and there are plans for additional expansion into Boston's Allston neighborhood. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which originated in Boston and was long known as "Boston Tech," moved across the river to Cambridge in 1916. Tufts University administers its medical and dental school adjacent to the Tufts-New England Medical Center (Tufts-NEMC). Boston is also home to several conservatories and art schools, including the Art Institute of Boston, Massachusetts College of Art, and the New England Conservatory of Music (the oldest independent conservatory in the United States).
Hyatt Regency Cambridge
Minutes from Boston, the Hyatt Regency Cambridge hotel is located along the scenic Charles River overlooking the Boston skyline and is in the midst of two uncommonly exciting cities, Boston and Cambridge. Each exhibits a unique blend of old world charm coupled with youthful, contemporary sophistication. Cambridge is the spirit side of Boston and just a bridge away on the historic side.
Special group rates have been arranged for the meeting, and bookings are to be made directly with the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, (see Accomodations).
Directions to the Hyatt Regency Cambridge
The two main options for travelling from Logan International Airport to the Hyatt Regency Cambridge is either by taxi (readily available at the airport - about 8 mile trip) or by subway. To travel by subway, first take the Airport Shuttle to the Blue Line subway station. Take the Blue Line subway inbound to Government Center. At Government Center, take the Green Line (Boston College Branch - B) in the direction of Boston College. Get off at the Boston University West (not Boston College) subway stop. This is an above-ground stop along Commonwealth Avenue. From here, it is about a 10 minute walk from the subway stop to the Hyatt Regency Cambridge. Backtrack a short distance on Commonwealth Avenue and take a left on to the Boston University Bridge, which crosses the Charles River. Across the bridge, you can see the Hyatt Regency Cambridge just off to the right overlooking the river.
